[WIP] DM MG Exia(Repairs) WIP 2

With the release of the PG Exia, I knew I had to update this project just before finishing it. On the last update I just finished lighting up all the GN condensers. But the PG Exia also lit up its GN cables. Plus the PG Exia has a new lighting system that uses RGB LEDs. 

Since I'm already half-way through my MG Exia project, I decided to light up the GN cables too.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to take much WIP pics. But this additional mods still do follow the same techniques I used for the other parts of the kit.

I have to admit I was in a bit of a rush to finish this part. It's just that I didn't have enough time to plan the mods properly and it's already taken far too long since I last worked on this and there's already a bit of backlog for the other projects that need attention.

One thing that I'm trying to implement in my projects is the use of a usb phone charger as a power supply to my kits. 

Now all that's left for this project is some panel lining and it's good as finished.

[WIP] DM MG Exia(Repairs) WIP 1

So after much planning,  I finally got around to working on this.

Much of the work on the head was on where and how to light up the clear pieces on the heads' side. The 0603 SMD LEDs I used was just perfect for the space on the sides. 

I was actually surprised with the amount of space inside the arm inner frame. Those areas really made passing wires through easier. 

The Exias's knee design actually made it hard to pass wiring through that area. There were a few overlapping pieces that could cause mobility problems if not addressed properly.

Also, I had a pair of wires go out the foot so that I can hide the wiring into a display base when I want to display the kit on a standing position. I will also be putting connectors into the crotch area if ever I want to display it in more dynamic/ flying poses.

Since majority of the wiring will be meeting at the main body of the kit, that's what I built last. 

1st, I didn't use the included LED units since I needed to make some space in the chest area for my wiring. Same with the arms and leg parts, the main body was quite spacious so wiring wasn't really complicated.

The final section for wiring was the waist area. Instead of the wiring going around the waist area, I had the wiring pass through the waist area so it looks cleaner with the wiring less obvious. 

I really enjoyed this project. With enough planning I was able to finish this in a week, working for a few hours every day.

[REVIEW] DM MG Exia(Repairs) Unboxing

NOTE: You may or may not need this review in the future. ;P

Anyway, here's an unboxing review of the Dragon Momoko MG Exia(+Repair versions).

This kit comes with all parts and accessories for you to build 1 of the 4 versions of the Gundam Exia. Either the Original Exia, Repair 1, 2, or 3.

 

Box is a almost the same size as the MG Avalanche Exia. Plus 1/100 Barbatos box for scale.

This kit's manual is thick. It's a bit confusing since it instructs you to build the Exia Repair 2-3 body then its accessories. Then it tells you which parts to build and swap to build the other versions.

From initial inspections, everything looks good. Details are crisp, not much molding issues, and colors are vibrant for my taste.

As usual with the recent DM kits, majority, if not all pieces are under gated. Specially the armor pieces. Also, details appear crisp and no notable mold issues

One thing I noticed is that the eye piece for my kit is a bit bent, if not broken. Good thing it's nothing some clue can't fix.

Another notable thing is that most, if not all, non-white armor pieces come in 2 shades. 1 runner is in deep colors and the other has lighter colors. Not sure why it comes with 2 sets of armor. Let me know in the comments. :D
